Masters of Photography-Manuel Alvarez Bravo
Mexican photographer, Manuel Alvarez Bravo, was born in 1902 in Mexico City, and died in 2002. In 1918, he started studying music and painting at the Academia Nacional de Bellas Artes, and did not start experimenting with photography until the mid 1920's. Alvarez Bravo's work was mainly political, and dealt with the Mexican Revolution. His most famous picture is the one shown above, "Obrero en huelga, asesinado," which translates to "Striking Worker, Assassinated." He often didn't let politics interfere with his work. I like this picture because one, I all things bloody and gory, and two, because it is a good representation of how people treated strikers in Mexico, and how they can kill someone and just leave them out to die where everyone, even little kids. It is sad knowing that my culture was and is treated like that.
